ABOUT PSIBORG...

As you'll have seen on the main page, Psiborg1 is a bot for Half-Life. Recently, there has been renewed interest in Half-Life bots - botman has been working on TFC and Counterstrike support for some time, and now several other coders have released Counterstrike-compatible bots. There are too many CS bots to list here, but botman's page is a good place to go if you'd like more information.

Why yet another Half-life bot? One reason is that I don't find the current set of Half-Life bots much fun to play. More importantly, it gives me a good excuse to fiddle around with some AI techniques.

The aim of this project is to create a realistic, intelligent bot which is easy to use and fun to play.  It's realistic, in that I want it to play as much like a human player as possible. This means no wild one-shot kills (not fair), or strange dodging/jumping behaviour (annoying), and so on.

MODIFICATIONS AND SOURCE CODE...

Psiborg is intended for 'pure' Half-Life only, rather then any of the modifications. I'd like to code mod support (including Counterstrike, naturally), but it won't happen until Psiborg has mastered Half-Life. See the nice FAQ.

I'd also like to release the source code to Psiborg. All the code will fall under the LGPL, a more liberal version of the suddenly-popular GPL (Gnu Public License).

RELEASE DATES...

Possibly late 2000. More likely, first things 2001. Releases will follow thick and fast after that...

      1. Psiborg is the first name I thought of, and it accidentally stuck. Sorry.
